President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put up Nigeria’s Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) 737-700, originally acquired in 2005 under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, for sale.
The aircraft, which has served as the main presidential jet for nearly two decades, is currently listed for sale on Controller, a global aircraft sales platform. It is presently undergoing inspection and evaluation at AMAC Aerospace facilities in Basel, Switzerland.
This move comes after the jet reportedly suffered a technical malfunction during one of President Tinubu’s recent trips to Saudi Arabia, raising concerns about its continued reliability and airworthiness. The situation prompted the consideration of a replacement, with reports indicating that a newer Airbus A330 has been acquired or leased to bolster the presidential fleet.
The decision to sell the ageing jet aligns with the administration’s broader plans to reduce maintenance costs and modernize the presidential air fleet.
