Commissionership Vacancy: APC stakeholder calls for consideration of ‘Old Members’
…writes Open Letter to Gov Umo Eno
An Open Letter To His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State Over The Imperative of Appointing A Core APC Member To Replace The Vacant Commissionership Position.
On behalf of the Executives and members of the APC Core Supporters Network (ACSN), Ibiono Ibom Chapter, I wish to most humbly pen this Open Letter to Your Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State on the vacancy created by the resignation of the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
Firstly, I wish to, on behalf of ACSN congratulate Your Excellency and other members of the PDP on the seamless and successful movement into our great Party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
While the APC Core Supporters Network sees this movement as a good development which would further strengthen our Party and attract more dividends of democracy from the center to the State, we wish to appeal to Your Excellency to consider the welfare and wellbeing of core members of the APC in the state.
It must be noted at this juncture that Your Excellency’s humane disposition on matters of governance, fairness and equity is never in doubt. It must also be stated that you have demonstrated your readiness to carry everyone in the state along, irrespective of political affiliation.
It is on the strength of the necessity to carry everyone along that we the core APC supporters are appealing to Your Excellency to consider appointing a core APC member from Ibiono Ibom LGA as a replacement to fill the vacant Commissionership position.
The imperative of considering our humble appeal, Your Excellency, can not be overemphasized. This will not only douse the tension arising from the notion that the defectors would continue to take over all the positions in the APC.
It may interest Your Excellency to note that what we currently have as APC in Akwa Ibom State evolved many years ago from AD to AC, to ACN and now APC. We still have people who have kept faith with the party from then till now, while many have passed away. The common thing about the dead and living Party loyalists is that they had/have nothing to show as rewards for their consistency and steadfastness.
It won’t be out of point, Your Excellency, to humbly assert here that appointing a core APC member as replacement for Commissionership, will not only guarantee a sense of belonging, but would also deliver the message in your promise at different fora that the core members of the APC would not be ‘brushed aside’ as it were in similar circumstances in the past.
Appointing a core APC member into your cabinet at this stage will further send energy as well as ignite hope amongst the millions of the party faithful, thereby strengthening the party across the state. Appointing core APC members into your cabinet would also serve as a check against some of your appointees whose loyalties are in doubt, having been nominated by their political ‘bosses’ in the PDP, who are not willing to completely defect to the APC with you.
In conclusion, Your Excellency, past experiences have taught us that very few (if there’s any ) new ‘defectors’ have the interest of the core APC members at heart. Therefore, appointing people who know who the surviving old APC members are would help balance your cabinet and truly make your government an all-inclusive one.
Thank you, Your Excellency for attention even as I am hopeful of your kind consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Comrade Idorenyin Imaha Uyire
