…reassures communities on CRBDA land reclamation
It was a weekend of double impact for the Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA) as its Managing Director, Obongawan (Mrs.) Glory Ekpo Oho, combined the flag-off of a major road construction project with renewed visits to Basin lands across Akwa Ibom State.
On Saturday, 27th September, 2025 the CRBDA boss performed the official flag-off of the Ikono/Ini/Obot Akara Road Project, to be executed by Jamul Global Group of Companies under the direct supervision of the Authority. The road, billed for completion within 18 months, is expected to ease transportation, open up trade routes, and boost socio-economic activities across the benefiting local government areas.
The ceremony attracted top management of CRBDA, including the Executive Director of Engineering, Engr. Charles Usua, his counterparts in Planning and Design, Dr. Ndon Abia and Executive Director Agricultural Services, Hon. Ebiere Etukudo, alongside traditional rulers, youth leaders, and women representatives from the communities.
Speaking at the event, Obongawan Ekpo Oho assured the people that the Authority would strictly monitor the project to ensure quality and timely delivery. She also called on the communities to give maximum cooperation, stressing that the initiative was designed to improve their lives and promote regional development.
Earlier in the week, the CRBDA Managing Director had embarked on a field tour to Ukpom community in Ikono Local Government Area as part of her renewed drive to reclaim lands and projects originally belonging to the Basin Authority. The visit, led by the Local Government Chairman, offered her the opportunity to inspect abandoned Basin projects and interact with stakeholders.
The reception was warm as traditional rulers, women, and youths pledged their full support for CRBDA’s revival efforts. The Local Government Chairman urged the Authority to take advantage of the goodwill of the communities to repossess the lands and restore their original purpose of agricultural development and rural empowerment.
Reassuring the people, Obongawan Ekpo Oho declared: “Your lands are intact. CRBDA is determined to reclaim and restore these projects for the benefit of the people and to strengthen food security.”
With the twin engagements of road construction and land reclamation, Obongawan Glory Ekpo Oho has signaled a new phase of action-driven leadership in CRBDA—anchored on infrastructure expansion, agricultural revitalisation, and grassroots partnership.
