Nigeria is currently witnessing a major security shake-up as 16 military officers are being held for their alleged involvement in a coup plot. Here’s what we know about them:
1️⃣ Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq – Born 3 Jan 1974, Nasarawa State. Alleged leader of the plot. Has previously faced detention over diversion of rice palliatives and selling military equipment. Former Commander, 3rd Brigade Kano & Garrison Commander, Lagos.
2️⃣ Colonel M.A. Ma’aji – Born 1 Mar 1976, Niger State. Suspected key strategist. Former CO of 19 Battalion, Okitipupa. Took part in Operation Crocodile Smile II & Delta Safe.
3️⃣ Lt. Colonel S. Bappah – Born 21 Jun 1984, Bauchi State. Signals Corps officer.
4️⃣ Lt. Colonel A.A. Hayatu – Born 13 Aug 1983, Kaduna State. Infantry officer.
5️⃣ P. Dangnap – Born 1 Apr 1986, Plateau State. Infantry officer. Court-martialed in 2015 with 29 others.
6️⃣ Lt. Colonel M. Almakura – Born 18 Mar 1983, Nasarawa State. Infantry officer.
7️⃣ Major A.J. Ibrahim – Born 12 Jun 1987, Gombe State. Infantry officer.
8️⃣ Major M.M. Jiddah – Born 9 Jul 1985, Katsina State. Infantry officer.
9️⃣ Major M.A. Usman – Born 1 Apr 1989, FCT. Infantry officer.
🔟 Major D. Yusuf – Born 26 May 1988, Gombe State. Ordnance Corps officer.
