FUTIA sends forth former DAP, Prof Felicia Etim

…as VC commends her meritorious service

The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has sent forth the pioneer Director of Academic Planning (DAP) of the Institution, Prof. Felicia Etim, while commending her meritorious service during her one year Sabbatical appointment in the University.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Leo Daniel made the commendation on behalf of the institution during a brief Send-forth Ceremony held on Friday, 26th September 2025, at the Senate Chambers, Takeoff Campus of the University

“On behalf of the Governing Council, Management Team, Staff and Students of FUTIA, I heartily congratulate you on your successful completion of your one year sabbatical appointment in FUTIA. As Management, we acknowledge and commend your inputs as the pioneer Director of Academic Planning of the University as well as other modest contributions you made within the period under review towards the growth of the newly established specialized institution and the education sector generally”, FUTIA VC extolled.

“As a university, we wish you many fruitful years of continuous impact to the education system and your future endeavours while looking forward to partnering you in other possible areas”, Prof. Daniel added.

In a tone-setting remarks, the Registrar of the University, Offiongita Nkang(Mrs), said the Management and Senate of the University in its wisdom resolved to organize the send-forth to specially celebrate the impressive services and contributions of Prof. Felicia Etim to the University. The Registrar highlighted some of her outstanding legacies in FUTIA, describing her sabbatical tenure as impactful and congratulated her.

In her response, Prof. Felicia Etim expressed thanks to God and appreciated the management of the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi for the opportunity to serve her one year Sabbatical appointment in the institution, describing the experience as worthwhile.

Prof. Etim particularly appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel for approving her sabbatical appointment and all the principal officers, including the Registrar, Offiongita Nkang, the Bursar, Dr Mbobo Erasmus, the University Librarian, Prof. Philip Akor, Members of Senate of the University, Provosts of Schools, Heads of Departments, Staff of Academic Planning Directorate, and the entire staff and students of the University for the various support offered to her during her sabbatical tenure.

Prof. Etim who is a former University of Uyo Librarian seized the opportunity to commend FUTIA in her ground breaking programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation; praying for the Institution and staff to grow and fulfill her set academic, innovation and research goals.

Goodwill messages were received from the current Director of Academic Planning of the University and Provost of School of Management Technology, Prof. Isaac Ayandele, the Chairman of the Send forth Planning Committee and Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering, Engr Dr. Bassey Okon. Goodwill messages were also received from a Professor of Measurement & Evaluation at the University of Uyo, Prof. Eme Joseph and the Head of Branch, National Library of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Ebi, respectively, that accompanied Prof. Felicia Etim to the Send-forth Ceremony.

High points of the event were the presentation of a letter of commendation and a momento from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel, on behalf of the university to the former DAP, Prof. Felicia Etim. The Head of Department of Library and Information Technology of the University, Dr Colombus Udofot, while commending the inputs of the celebrant, also presented a momento to Prof. Felicia Etim on behalf of the Department and the University Library.

In a vote of thanks, the University Registrar, Offiongita Nkang(Mrs), expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, other Management staff, and Senate of the University for approving and sponsorship of the send-forth in honour of Prof. Felicia Etim.

She appreciated all the members of the University Senate who were in attendance to grace the occasion as well as the Send-forth Planning Committee and friends of Prof. Felicia Etim, who accompanied her to the event. She appreciated the university community for working in synergy with the former director of academic planning during her tenure and particularly wished Prof. Felicia Etim success in her future endeavours.
