President of the Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio has assured that the National Assembly would stop at nothing in improving the welfare and wellbeing of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police.

Sen Akpabio who made the pledge yesterday while he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Second Edition of Police Awards and Commendations in Abuja, recalled how he donated 350 Jeeps and other equipments to the force to enable their operations.

In a post-event release the Senate President also called on the Nigerian governors to support the security agents in their respective states.

Akpabio said “Yesterday, I represented President Bola Tinubu GCFR at the Second Edition of Police Awards and Commendations, in Abuja

President Tinubu, who spoke through me, assured the Police and other security agencies of the readiness of his administration to ensure adequate support for our security agencies through provision of the needed equipment, human capital development and improved renumeration.

In my personal remarks, I recall one day, when I invited the then Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro. He came to my state and I presented 350 Jeeps, brand new vehicles, with communication equipment and thereafter, I added four armoured Personnel Carriers and some platforms for the Marine Police. I built and handed over to the Police, the Mopol Base. I built Police Secondary School at no cost to the police”.

Sen Akpabio further hinted that as Senate President, he had completed no fewer than ten police stations in his Senatorial District, noting that he wasn’t tired of doing more.

“As Senate President, I have completed 10 Police Stations in my Senatorial District and I’m not tired of doing things for the Police. I can assure you on behalf of the National Assembly that we will stop at nothing to appropriate the requisite funds for the Police to improve, not just the welfare but also the strength of its personnel in order to be able to Police Nigeria.

Let all the Governors assist the Police in their respective states. No matter how little you do, it can go a long way to assisting the Police”.
