Just-In! Gunmen kill Army General in Abuja, abduct Wife
A senior officer of the Nigerian Army, Major General Hassan Ahmed, has reportedly been killed by gunmen in the Abaji area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to reports, the attackers also abducted his wife during the incident, which occurred while the couple were returning from Okene in Kogi State.
Sources said the assailants opened fire on the vehicle conveying the couple, killing the senior officer on the spot, while the driver reportedly survived after pretending to be dead. The gunmen allegedly took the officer’s wife away after the attack.
Before his death, Major General Hassan Ahmed served as a director at the Army Headquarters following his appointment by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya. He also previously held the position of Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Nigeria, particularly over attacks involving kidnappings and armed violence.
As at the time of this report, the Defense Headquarters has yet to issue an statement on the reported sad incident.
