The Governing Council of the University of Calabar, Unical, has confirmed the appointment of Professor Offiong E. Offiong as the 12th Vice- Chancellor in the citadel of learning.
His confirmation event took place on Friday October 31, 2025 at the Council Chamber.
According to Prof. Offiong’s colleagues, his appointment has birthed another administrative milestone of the prestigious institution, as according to them, it is expected to usher in a new era of visionary leadership, moving forward.
Prof. Offiong’s emergence, pundits say, rekindles hope for greater innovation, deepens research development and culture, and invites stronger global engagement.
And for Prof. Offiong, indeed, it is a platform to showcase leadership and competitively put the University ahead of its contemporaries.
The new Vice Chancellor is set to assume office on December 1, 2025, for a five-year term. Professor Offiong succeeds Professor Florence Obi and brings over three decades of experience in teaching and administration to the role.
He has served as Commissioner for Education in Cross River State and has held various positions within UNICAL, including Dean of the Faculty of Science. His vision for the university includes expanding international partnerships, improving infrastructure, and enhancing research output.
