The Faculty of Health Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Uyo Study Centre has concluded a 3-day Health Week with a call to the indigenes and residents of Akwa Ibom to take advantage of the health insurance scheme of the Gov Umo Eno-led State government.
The event which had as its theme “Promoting Health Equity Through Community-Based Initiatives: A Focus on The AKSHIA Agenda and The Arise Care Package”, commenced on the 1st of September and had its Grand Finale on the 3rd September, 2025.
Day-one of the sensitization programme featured carnival float on major streets in Uyo, as well as environmental sanitation at strategic locations.
Locations visited by the Health Sciences students for environmental sanitation and sensitization on proper health practices included the International Headquarters of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, NUJ Press Centre, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) and Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health located at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, all in Uyo.
Novelty football match was held on Day-two of the maiden Health Week.
At the Grand Finale held at the POP Hall of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Uyo Study Centre, Udoudoma Avenue, guest speakers took turns to sensitize the participants on the need to adhere to proper health practices and to take advantage of the healthcare programmes of the Akwa Ibom State government.
The event was attended by the Uyo Centre Director of NOUN; Associate Prof. Edwin Bassey, Desk Officer- Faculty of Health Sciences, Uyo Study Centre; Mr. Otobong Alexander, DNS, Ministry of Health, Akwa Ibom State; Mrs. Patricia Etim and Provost, College of Nursing Sciences, UUTH; Mr. Akaninyene Abam.
Others were the International President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio; Akparawa James Edet represented by the International Secretary, the State Chairman of NUJ; Comrade Nsibiet John and a host of others.
The Grand Finale also featured award presentations to deserving awardees, pageantry and other side attractions.
