‘…the status quo remains unchanged’
By Ime Silas
The Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of the Cross River Basin Authority, CRBA, Obonganwan (Mrs.) Glory Ekpo-Oho has affirmed that Obong Ime Gamble is the Political Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nsit Ubium local government area.
Obonganwan Ekpo-Oho who stated this yesterday during the stakeholders’ meeting of the APC in Nsit Ubium LGA further informed the party stalwarts that the direction of the state leadership of the party is to the effect that the status quo must be maintained until further notice.
Addressing the stakeholders, stalwarts and supporters yesterday at the chapter secretariat of the APC, the CRBA CEO noted that the Caucus and leadership of the party at the state level found her as the only person worthy to deliver their message to them in Nsit Ubium.
“I want to tell you all that those things you have heard and those things you saw being done; some people coming out to claim that they are the leaders, these ones said they are these and that. The party sent me to tell the true members and stakeholders of the APC in Nsit Ubium that for now, the status quo remains”, Obonganwan Glory Ekpo-Oho said.
While stressing the need for all to experiment maturity within the party, the 2023 APC House of Representatives candidate noted that “Nsit Ubium is a peculiar local government. Every political timber and caliber is from Nsit Ubium. The governor himself is also from Nsit Ubium. So, I can’t imagine how someone would just wake up from sleep and said he’s the leader of the APC in Nsit Ubium, leading the governor. If it happens like that, it would appear as if we’re not organized.
“So, that’s why the party at the state level sent me to come and point you to the right direction. The APC you see today, in the next two weeks, would be a different story. If we start now to fight blindly, how would we be able to do the right thing when the right time comes?.
Let me tell you that all those who made those unfounded claims have chased themselves out of the party”.
She assured them that their interests in the party were protected, saying “Let me also call on you all who are the real members of the APC in Nsit Ubium to stand firm, avoid letting anything to pull you out.
I want to assure you that there’s no how issues of APC in this state would be discussed that I would not be part of it and I can assure you that you will be ably represented and your respective interests will be protected.
I want to advise you all to be united. Leave those noisemakers because they don’t know what they’re doing. You are the owners of this party and soon, they’ll be joy in the morning”.
On her new appointment Obonganwan Ekpo-Oho said: “I didn’t come here to talk about the appointment that God has made it possible for me. When the time comes for me to speak on behalf of my position, I shall do so. First of all, I will have to officially meet with the governor, thereafter, I will meet with you, my people. We had earlier met with the governor of Cross River State.
Meanwhile, I want to encourage all the farmers here, the women, youths and the elderly that the Basin Authority will assist you in diverse ways to improve your agricultural endeavors”.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Nsit Ubium APC leader, Obong Ime Gamble thanked the CRBA boss for the continued confidence she had on him as well as finding time to come and meet with the party stakeholders and stalwarts.
He appreciated the APC faithful in Nsit Ubium LGA for being steadfast with the party and according him all the necessary support in the past years as their political leader.
Obong Gamble further urged the party stakeholders to continue working in unity with the view to ensuring that all the steadfast members who sacrificed for the sustenance of the APC in Nsit Ubium reaped the fruits of their labour.
The meeting was also attended by the former House of Representatives candidate on the platform of the now defunct ACN, Dr. Chris Enoch, Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the APC National Youth Caucus, Comrade Victor Sunday Etim, former Chapter Chairman; Billy Mkpouto, as well as other notable elders, women and youths of the party in Nsit Ubium.
