A prominent cleric, Prophet Ekong Ituen, has faulted former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola for the All Progressives Congress, APC, defeat in the August 15 governorship election, saying the party’s loss was caused by blocking Governor Ademola Adeleke from defecting to the APC.

In a statement released on Sunday, August 16, Prophet Ituen who is the Founder and Spiritual Leader of Christ Deliverance Ministries, CDM, Lagos, said he had warned Oyetola months earlier that the decision would weaken the party and create internal friction ahead of the polls.

“I warned you but you didn’t listen, you blocked Governor Adeleke from crossing over to APC. I did mentioned earlier that your action will put your party in disadvantageous position of winning. Your party lost because of your personal political interest,” the prophet said in the statement addressed to the former governor

The fierce Prophet also repeated a prophecy he made on July 12, 2026, ahead of the election. In that earlier message, he described the Osun governorship contest as “tough” and cautioned APC leaders against allowing personal interests to override party unity.

“The people of Osun State in South-west Nigeria, will witness a tough governorship Election in August 15, 2026,” he had said.

“You took a wrong step because of your personal political interest, by blocking Governor Adeleke from crossing over to APC. This has definitely brought about disunity and friction within the Party, thereby putting the party in disadvantageous position of winning.

“With my recent spiritual observation; Unless your party speeds up reconciliatory efforts with divine intervention, I don’t see them winning 2026 governorship election,” the July prophecy read.

The cleric further claimed that the political future of Osun still lies with Senator Iyiola Omisore, former deputy governor and ex-APC chieftain.

“Let me affirm that Senator Iyiola Omisore will certainly become the Governor of Osun State in the future as previously predicted. only death can stop him!” Prophet Ituen declared.

The August 15 election was keenly contested, with Governor Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Pary. The APC had fielded its own candidate after internal negotiations over defections failed.

Prophet Ituen urged the APC to pursue reconciliation quickly if it hopes to remain competitive in the state. He said divine intervention would be needed alongside political bridge-building.

As of press time, Oyetola and APC leaders in Osun had not issued an official response to Prophet Ituen’s comments. Senator Omisore could also not be reached for comment.
