Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has poured out her heart in a moving tribute to her late colleague and industry icon, Chief Olu Jacobs, describing his life and legacy as too iconic for words.
In a deeply emotional statement, the legendary actress said she had struggled for days to find the right words to capture the greatness of the late thespian, but words failed her.
“I have searched for the right words to describe how ICONIC you were, but words have failed me. Trust me, I have tried over the last few days,” Ozokwor said.
“How do you put into words the life, the gift, the greatness of a man who left footprints so deep that generations will walk in them?” she queried.
Patience Ozokwor, who has shared decades in the Nigerian film industry with the late Olu Jacobs, described him as a man who came, saw, lived and conquered in every sense of the word.
“You came. You saw. You lived. You conquered. And oh, how you lived,” she wrote.
According to her, Olu Jacobs gave more than just talent to the industry; he gave his passion, his laughter, his strength and a part of himself to Nollywood, Nigeria and Africa at large.
“You gave your talent, your passion, your laughter, your strength, and a part of yourself to us. You gave so much to Nollywood, to Nigeria, and to Africa. You were more than an actor, more than an entertainer — you became a part of our memories, our stories, and our collective identity,” she stated.
The actress noted that the late legend’s work spoke volumes even when words were not enough, adding that his presence lit up screens and his legacy will continue to speak long after the tears have dried.
“Your work spoke when words were not enough. Your presence lit up our screens. Your legacy will continue to speak long after the tears have dried,” Ozokwor said.
She went on to express gratitude to the late icon for the countless moments of joy he brought to homes across the continent, and for giving the world a piece of himself that time can never take away.
“Thank you for all you did for us. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the countless moments of joy. Thank you for giving us a piece of yourself that time can never take away. WE WILL NEVER FORGET,” she said.
Patience Ozokwor also offered prayers for the family of the deceased, particularly his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, his children, friends, colleagues and all who are mourning the immeasurable loss.
“As we mourn your passing, I pray that God will wrap His loving arms around your beautiful wife, Joke, your children, your entire family, friends, colleagues, and all of us who are left to grieve this immeasurable loss,” she prayed.
“May God give you all the strength and fortitude to bear this pain. May He comfort every heart that is broken and give peace to every soul that mourns,” she added.
She bid the great legend farewell, noting that while his journey on earth has ended, his light will continue to shine through his works and the lives he touched.
“Go well, GREAT LEGEND. Your journey here may have come to an end, but your light will continue to shine through your work, your legacy, and the lives you touched. Sleep peacefully. Rest well. Until we meet again, to part no more,” Mama G concluded.
Olu Jacobs, who passed on at the age of 82 after years of battling health challenges, remains one of Nollywood’s most revered figures, with a career that spanned over five decades on stage, television and film, both in Nigeria and internationally.
His death has continued to trigger an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and stakeholders across the African entertainment industry.
