Rivers Crisis: Why I declined request to probe Fubara, deputy – Chief Judge 

 

 

 

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, His Lordship, Justice Simeon Amadi has revealed why he declined the request by members of the state House of Assembly to probe Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The Chief Judge made his position known in the matter via a letter he personally signed and addressed to the Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Martin Amaewhule.

Justice Amadi in the letter however acknowledged receipt of the resolution of the State Assembly requesting him to set up a seven-man panel against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, but insisted that he is restrained by a subsisting court order.

The Chief Judge also stressed that an appeal by Speaker Martin Amaewhule which has been Lodged against the said interim order at the court of appeal Port Harcourt Division, and hinted that he has been served with the processes.

In view of the notice of appeal, the Rivers State Chief judge in the letter, stated that his hands were fettered, as there were subsisting interim orders of Injunction and appeal against the said orders, therefore he’s legally restrained from exercising his duties under section 188 (5) of the Constitution in the instant.
