Patrice Lumumba’s youngest son, Roland-Gilbert Okito Lumumba, has passed away whilst still battling to secure justice against colonial masters for the tragic murder of his father.
According to credible sources, Roland died on January 29, 2026, in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, at the age of 67 following an illness.
He was a Member of Parliament for nearly a decade and devoted his life to defending his father’s ideological legacy and upholding the Congolese people’s right to know the truth.
In the photograph attached herewith, Pauline Opanga Lumumba, wife ofĀ Congolese Premier Patrice Lumumba, was captured breaking down outside her home in the African quarter of Leopoldville, demanding her husband’s release.
She had just returned from UN headquarters in New York, where she pleaded for his safety. Tragically, he was killed and his body dissolved in acid by Katangan and Belgian forces; only a tooth remained, smuggled to Belgium as a souvenir.
The boy on her lap is Ronald Okito Lumumba, Patrice Lumumba’s youngest son.
Though a trained architect, Ronald dedicated himself to preserving his father’s political and historical legacy as a central figure in Congolese independence.
He travelled to Belgium several times, most recently to Brussels for court hearings, saying his efforts were driven by a “thirst for truth” rather than revenge.
