SPORTS: Osimhen completes Record Move, gets Hero’s Welcome to Galatasaray

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has arrived in Istanbul to finalise his big-money transfer to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The 26-year-old forward joins Galatasaray from Italian side Napoli in a record deal worth €75 million – the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history.

Osimhen landed in Istanbul late on Wednesday night and was met by thousands of excited Galatasaray fans at Atatürk Airport. Many supporters had been following his private jet’s journey online, with FlightRadar24 showing huge interest across the country.

Osimhen, who had a brilliant loan spell with Galatasaray last season where he scored 37 goals and provided 7 assists in 40 matches, could not hide his joy.

“I’m home. This is where I want to be. I’m happy to be here, to be back,” Osimhen told reporters. “Look at the crowd, look at how people followed the plane. I feel great to be here.”

During his emotional arrival, Osimhen stepped out of his car to greet two physically challenged fans, a moment that touched many people present.

Although several top clubs from Europe and the Middle East showed interest in signing him, Osimhen said he only had one club in mind.

“This has been on my mind since the start of the year. Now it’s time to focus. I will do my best to meet the goals of the coach and the club,” he said.

He also thanked Galatasaray president Abdullah Kavukcu, sporting director George Gardi, and manager Okan Buruk for making the transfer happen.

“As I always say: the story continues. I’m happy to continue this story with Galatasaray,” Osimhen added.

His €75 million move beats the previous Turkish transfer record held by Youssef En-Nesyri, who joined Fenerbahçe for €19.5 million last summer.

Osimhen praised Galatasaray fans for their strong support.

“So many people came just to see one player. Galatasaray fans are the best in the world. I’ll give my all on the pitch for them this season.”

The club is expected to unveil him officially at Rams Park in the coming days in what promises to be a colourful event.

After helping the club to success last season, Osimhen returns on a permanent deal and is ready to win more trophies with Galatasaray.

As he said with pride: “Solo il Gala” – only Galatasaray.
