SCRIPTURE TEXT:
“Edom may say, ‘We have been shattered, but we will rebuild the ruins.’ But the Lord of Heaven’s Armies replies, ‘They may try to rebuild, but I will demolish them again.”(Malachi 1:4 )
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
“A man who intends to build without God is like a bird trying to fly with broken wings. No matter how hard it flaps, it will crash to the ground”.
INTRODUCTION
Beloved, hear me and hear me well: There is no future in building without God! You cannot outsmart the One who created the heavens and the earth. Imagine a man standing in the middle of the ocean, boasting that he will construct a castle in the waves. No matter how beautiful it looks or how much effort he exerts, when the storms come, the waters will swallow it up.
This was the plight of Edom. They said, “We have been shattered, but we will rebuild the ruins.” How arrogant! How blind! They forgot that their destruction came not from man but from the hand of the Almighty. And God declared, “They may try to rebuild, but I will demolish them again.”
This is a warning not just to Edom but to anyone who thinks they can play God.
MESSAGE :
Edom’s pride was not just an inward rebellion; it manifested in their actions against God’s chosen people, Israel. They turned their backs on their covenant connection with Jacob’s descendants and became active enemies of Israel. By denying them passage through their land in their time of need (Numbers 20:14-21) and rejoicing over Israel’s calamities (Obadiah 1:10-14), they showed blatant disregard for God’s covenant and plan.
This betrayal and persistent hostility invited God’s righteous anger and judgment upon them. God will not allow those who oppose His covenant people to prevail, and He declares, “They may try to rebuild, but I will demolish them again” (Malachi 1:4).
Pride is the enemy of restoration. Edom’s pride blinded them to the reality that their ruin was a result of divine judgment. They were not fighting an enemy; they were fighting God Himself. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1).
Pause for a moment and reflect on the decisions you’ve made. Perhaps it was a decision against your husband, wife, coworker, the church, family or even your leader in the establishment. Could it be that you resolved to move forward without them? You decided, “I can manage on my own,” but have you truly stopped to assess how far you’ve come since making that decision?
•How much peace have you had?
•How much progress have you made?
Pride! Oh, pride! It blinds you. It whispers you, “You don’t need him or her,” but leaves you stranded in a desert of brokenness. It whispers lies that you can do it all by yourself, but deep down, you feel the emptiness, the frustration, the stagnation….
Beloved, can you stop for a moment and ask yourself:
•Did I shut out the person God sent to help me?
•Did I push away the support system God placed in my life?
•Did I decide to rebuild without God, without His guidance, without His appointed vessel?
TAKEAWAY MESSAGE:
True wisdom lies in humility. Pride destroys, but humility restores. Reexamine your choices today and let go of the pride that blinds you.
