The youths of Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency have declared their full support for the calls by well-meaning constituents for Mr Ikakke Bassey to join the race for the Federal Constituency seat at the National Assembly, Abuja, come 2027.
Acting under the aegis of Atai-Uyo Progressives Youth Movement (APYM), the youths described Ikakke Bassey as best man for the national assembly seat.
Atai-Uyo Progressives Youth Movement, our checks reveal, is a socio-political platform for youths drawn from the four local government areas of Uyo, Uruan, Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo Asutan that constitute the federal constituency.
In a statement jointly signed by Engr. (Comrade) Sampson Okono and Barr Rose Ekanem; National President and Secretary-General, respectively, the group noted that it was time for the youths to send their own to represent them in the House of Representatives.
“Over the years, we’ve been allowing others to appoint for us with its attendant socio-political repercussions”, parts of the statement read, adding that “this time, we will elect one of us to represent us”.
The group, while decrying ‘backwardness’ of Uyo federal constituency in terms of infrastructural and human capital development, attributed the situation to poor representation.
“Since the return of democracy in 1999, we have had different people on different political platforms represent our federal constituency at various dispensations. There’s no gainsaying the fact that most, if not all of the representatives never had the interests of our people at heart, hence their ineffectiveness”, the group stated.
On 2027, APYM continued: “As next election beckons, we don’t have any excuse not to get involved with a view to ensuring that the man who has our collective interests, is voted to represent us at the National Assembly.
It is on this premise that we wish to express our sincere gratitude to the leadership of the Democratic Freedom Front, DFF, Ibesikpo Asutan chapter, who, last week, threw its weight behind our very own, Mr Ikakke Bassey’s aspiration to represent our federal constituency at the National Assembly.
We have followed keenly his humanitarian services and people-centric dispositions. We have come to the conclusion that he has the interest of our people at heart. We are not unaware of the number of people he has touched their lives either directly or indirectly.
Come 2027, we will not only support him; we will also work to ensure his emergence as member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abuja”.
Our Correspondent gathered that Mr. Ikakke Bassey, a philanthropist cum entrepreneur, hails from Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
