…as NASS hopeful quits ADC

Youths of Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency have vowed to join the 2027 House of Representatives hopeful, Mr Ikakke Bassey to any political party upon which he wishes to prosecute his ambition.
Acting under the aegis of Atai-Uyo Progressive Youth Movement (APYM) Uruan Chapter, the youths stressed that their resolve was based on their conviction that Ikakke Bassey’s aspiration was in the best interest of the youths in particular, and the entire federal constituency in general.
Addressing the executives of the APYM who paid him a courtesy visit yesterday at the State Headquarters of Akwa Ibom Opposition Coalition, #40 Akwa Efak, off Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo, Mr. Ikakke informed them that crisis within any political party could not constitute an obstacle against his aspiration aimed at salvaging his people.
“My focus”, said the human development expert, “is to salvage my people from the shackles of developmental stagnation and economic doldrum.
Our people keep complaining every year because of a total lack of social amenities. Unemployment keeps increasing because while our governments are not doing anything to provide jobs, our representatives are also doing nothing to train and equip our youths to attain the status of employability.
“Therefore, my cardinal plan which I have stated in different fora, is to ensure that within the next four years, we train our youths in different fields in line with multinational companies’ requirements for employability. I will also ensure that I use my office as the Honourable Member representing the Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency to secure suitable jobs for our trained youths.
“We also have plans and programmes for the women, the men and even school children. These are very germane and people-oriented plans that can not be scuttled by orchestrated crisis in any political party.
So, after a wider consultation and careful consideration, I and my team decided that we have to leave the ADC, and so we have left. It is our belief that no particular party can stop a liberation movement who’s time has come”.
Earlier in his speech, leader of the delegation, Otuekong Uwem Udoh said they decided to visit the national assembly hopeful in order to get clarity on his recent resignation from the ADC and to seek direction.
“Sir, we are here because we heard that you have resigned from the ADC. We are convinced that whatever decision you have taken is in our interest.
All we need to hear is your directive. Our people are tired of stagnation and we are fully ready to support you. As we speak, all our members who were members of the ADC have also resigned from the party. We are here to reiterate our unalloyed support to your aspiration and to assure you that we will follow you to wherever and whichever political party you join”.
Also on the entourage of the APYM were Woman leader; Uyai Emmanuel, Financial Secretary; Offiong Effiong Edet, Secretary-General; Wisdom Boniface Edet, amongst others.
