Why my movement to APC was delayed – Defecting Taraba gov clarifies

By Amina Yusuf

The governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Mr. Agbu Kefas has vowed to use the broom handed to him today to sweep poverty, division and backwardness out of the state.

Governor Kefas who stated this in a statement shortly after his formal defection from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, stressed that his movement was for the interest of his state.

The governor while thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President, Sen Kashim Shettima for the seamless political development, further noted that the event which was earlier scheduled for November last year, was postponed in solidarity with the sister states over the abduction of school children.

“This event, originally scheduled for November 19, 2025, was respectfully postponed in solidarity with the people of Kebbi and other affected states following the tragic abduction of school children”, Gov Kefas hinted, adding that “As a father, and A leader, I could not, in good conscience, proceed with celebration while others mourned”.

He also appreciated his former party, the PDP, for the ‘platform’, maintaining that his defection was without bitterness, but boldness and accountability.

“To the PDP, I say thank you for the platform.

“To the APC, I say thank you for the opportunity and handing us the broom. We shall sweep away every trace of poverty, division, and backwardness.

“To my fellow Nigerians, I say Taraba is open for progress. We did not move because of politics, We did it for posterity. We did not shift for power, we shifted for a purpose.

Not with bitterness but with boldness.
Not with ambition but with accountability. Not for myself but for Taraba.

I appreciate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kassim Shettima, and the National leadership of APC for this great and progressive movement for the future of Taraba state”.
