2027: You can’t zone Presidential ticket to North, Wike dares PDP

In a bold and politically charged statement, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not zone its presidential ticket to the North in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a closed-door stakeholders meeting in Abuja, Wike emphasized the need for fairness and equity within the party. “The PDP presidential ticket is not going back to the North in 2027. I’m focused on building the party, not tearing it apart,” he asserted, stirring fresh debates over the party’s power rotation formula.

Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State and a key political figure in Southern Nigeria, has long been a vocal advocate for restructuring internal party leadership and ending what many perceive as Northern dominance in the PDP. His latest declaration may signify the beginning of a major power shift within the opposition party.

Political analysts see this as a defining moment that could reshape the PDP’s strategic direction ahead of 2027. While his statement resonates with Southern blocs, it also raises the stakes for intra-party unity, especially with influential Northern stakeholders expected to resist any abrupt deviation from prior arrangements.

As the dust begins to settle, one thing is clear: the battle for 2027 has officially begun within the PDP, and Wike’s stance may be the first of many defining moves in a high-stakes political chess game.

The stage is set, and the battle lines are drawn. Will this mark the end of Northern dominance in the PDP or the beginning of an even fiercer internal struggle?
