The political landscape of Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency shifted noticeably on Saturday as stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, converged on Ikot Abasi for the unveiling of the party’s campaign office and the inauguration of the 2027 Campaign Council of House of Representatives hopeful, Engr. Ubong Idemudo.
The event, held amid what organizers described as an organic and massive turnout, drew party leaders, political groups, and constituents who said they were tired of what they termed years of ineffective representation.
In his address, Idemudo said the crowd was proof that the people were ready for change.
“I’m marveled by this overwhelming crowd here in spite of a very short notice. I am grateful for your outpouring of support. I won’t and I can never take this for granted. Mark this day, if you elect me, which I am confident you will, I will do you proud. I will be one of the best National Assembly members ever elected to represent Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency,” he said.
Idemudo explained the symbolism behind his campaign and identity, linking it to community project and development.
“This is ‘utom idung’ with acronym ‘UI’, meaning ‘community project’. Note also that Ubong Idemudo also has ‘UI’ as acronym. So, Ubong Idemudo is utom idung. Let’s come together and maintain the tempo until we banish ineffective representation from Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency,” he stated.
The NDC candidate took a swipe at the current administration, saying his party was the only alternative with the structure and will to deliver.
“NDC is the only party in Ikot Abasi that has this kind of edifice as unveiled today. The crowd we see here is also organic. Not rented crowd. You all are here because you are tired of bad governance from the presidency, governorship, Senate, house of representatives and the state house of assembly,” he stressed.
“This is a new dawn. The NDC has come to translate our resources into wealth for the general well-being of our people,” Idemudo added.
He urged voters to align with the NDC across all levels in 2027, citing former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as a model of service.
“Peter Obi transformed Anambra State during his tenure as governor and left without any blemish. So, Come 2027, I urge you all to vote for Obi as President, Rt. Hon Mike Enyong alias ‘Babantan’ as governor of Akwa Ibom state, Engr. Frank Okon as senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District, Ubong Idemudo as your member of the house of representatives and Samuel Gogo Adasi as member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo state constituency.”
Idemudo also criticized the ruling APC, saying Nigerians had suffered enough under its policies.
“There’s an adage that you can fool some persons sometimes but you cannot fool everyone all the time. APC can never deceive Nigerians all the time. They have made life miserable for you and all Nigerians including unborn generations. So, 2027 is the payback time. They and their cohort party must be voted out,” he declared.
Constituents at the event echoed similar sentiments, with many describing the incumbent, Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudo, as “a mistake” that must be corrected at the polls. They maintained that Uduak Odudo has nothing to show as dividends of his representation and therefore, must be voted out.
Highpoints of the event were the unveiling of the NDC office in Ikot Abasi and inauguration of Engr. Idemudo 2027 Campaign Council.
The ceremony was attended by the NDC State Chairman, Dr. Bassey Willie, NDC Senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom South, Engr. Frank Okon, various stakeholders of the party, as well as heads and members of various political groups in the constituency.
With the unveiling and council inauguration, the NDC in Ikot Abasi says it has formally kicked off mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to present what it calls “community-driven representation” to the National Assembly.
