The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle Don, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the duly elected winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye-election.
The declaration was made at the Ibadan North Collation Centre, Ikolaba High School, by the Returning Officer, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan.
According to the official results, Hon. Oyekunle Don polled a total of 18,404 votes, securing a decisive victory over his closest rival, Hon. Adewale Olatunji Murphy of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 8,312 votes. The wide margin of victory underscored the overwhelming support of the electorate for the PDP candidate and reshaped the political landscape of the constituency.
With this triumph, Hon. Oyekunle Don will officially step into the shoes of the late representative of Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Musliu Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban), whose passing created the need for the bye-election.
In his remarks, Hon. Oyekunle Don dedicated the victory to the resilient people of Ibadan North and the PDP family across Oyo State, assuring them of effective representation, people-centered legislation, and unwavering commitment to the constituency’s development.
He also commended other contestants in the election, acknowledging their courage and contributions to the democratic process. “To my fellow contestants, you are all winners. The confidence and courage you displayed in this election have earned you a place in the hearts of our people. Do not be discouraged; together, we will continue to build Ibadan North and Oyo State,” he said.
Hon. Oyekunle Don further expressed gratitude to INEC, security agencies, party leaders, and voters for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election, while calling for continued unity and progress in Ibadan North.
