There have been fears about the safety of a Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who is reportedly stranded in Guinea‑Bissau after a successful coup-de-tat. The coup d’etat happened on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Jonathan had traveled to Bissau as Head of the West African Elders Forum Election‑observer Mission for the November 23 presidential and parliamentary polls.
However, his former spokesman, Ima Niboro has confirmed that the former Nigerian leader is safe.
Meanwhile, concerned Nigerians have stated that the government could intervene to ensure his safe return to Nigeria. Their apprehension is fueled by fears that the Junta might refuse to grant his peaceful exit from the country.
