The Founder and National Leader of Women Our Voice Our Votes, WOVOV, Dr. Mary Mena Akpoguma Okoimose, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as the All Progressives Congress, APC, Vice Presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Dr. Okoimose described the decision as a clear endorsement of Senator Shettima’s loyalty, competence, and commitment to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She said the retention sends a strong signal to Nigerians and the international community that the Tinubu administration values continuity, stability, and performance at the highest levels of government.
“His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, has demonstrated exceptional leadership, patriotism and unwavering dedication to the Nigerian project,” Dr. Okoimose stated.
According to her: “The decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to retain him as the APC Vice Presidential candidate for 2027 is a demonstration of confidence in his capacity to deliver on the mandate of good governance.”
Dr. Okoimose, who leads one of the country’s foremost women-focused political mobilization groups, noted that since assuming office, Senator Shettima has distinguished himself through purposeful engagement on national development issues. She pointed to his role in driving policies aimed at promoting peace, economic growth, and inclusive governance across the federation.
The women mobilizer further stated that the Vice President has remained a dependable partner in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in areas that affect vulnerable groups, women, and young people.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is about restoring confidence in government and delivering tangible results to the people. Senator Shettima has continued to align with that vision through steadfast support for policies that promote unity, economic prosperity and sustainable development,” she added.
The WOVOV National Leader expressed confidence that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket would continue to inspire Nigerians with a shared vision for national progress. She argued that retaining the same leadership pairing for 2027 would provide the needed policy consistency to consolidate gains recorded in security, infrastructure, and economic reforms.
Dr. Okoimose also used the opportunity to reaffirm WOVOV’s commitment to expanding women’s participation in democratic processes ahead of 2027. She said the organization would continue to mobilize women across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to support initiatives that advance good governance, unity, and inclusive development.
“Women constitute more than half of the voting population. Our voice must count in shaping the future of Nigeria. WOVOV remains committed to sensitizing, educating, and mobilizing women to take active roles in politics, from the grassroots to national leadership,” Dr. Okoimose said.
She prayed for God’s wisdom, strength, and protection for the Vice President as preparations intensify for the next election cycle, and wished him greater success in service to Nigeria.
Senator Kashim Shettima, former Governor of Borno State, has served as Vice President since May 2023. His retention on the APC ticket was announced by President Tinubu as part of early strategic positioning for the 2027 general elections.
Political pundits note that the early affirmation of the ticket is aimed at consolidating support within the party and signaling policy continuity to Nigerians and investors.
The APC has maintained that the Renewed Hope Agenda remains central to its campaign message for 2027, with focus on job creation, food security, energy reforms, and national cohesion.
WOVOV, Women Our Voice Our Votes, describes itself as a non-partisan movement dedicated to amplifying women’s participation in politics and governance. The group has in recent months intensified voter education and advocacy campaigns targeting women in rural and urban communities.
As the 2027 election approaches, endorsements from civil society groups and political stakeholders are expected to shape conversations around the ruling party’s strategy and the opposition’s response.
