…as Commissioner reiterates commitment to crime-free sectorÂ
The Compliance and Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Transport, Akwa Ibom State, has successfully apprehended a suspected notorious criminal, Mr. Wisdom Joseph Pius.
Mr. Pius is alleged to have been involved in a series of violent crimes targeting women and innocent commuters in Uyo.
Mr. Pius reportedly posed as a tricycle rider to commit heinous acts, including assaults, rapes and the theft of handbags from female victims and other passengers.
The arrest was initiated following a directive from the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke in response to the viral social media post from a victim, who remains anonymous for privacy reasons.
The post highlighted the criminal activities of Mr. Pius and identified the tricycle involved in these attacks.
Following his arrest, the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigations.
In response to this incident, the Ministry of Transport reaffirms its commitment to the safety of all citizens, especially vulnerable populations.
The Commissioner commended the bravery of the victim for speaking out, which facilitated prompt action by “our monitoring team.”
Dr. Luke also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate channels.
He stated, “The Ministry is implementing additional measures to enhance the safety and security of transportation services in the state.”
Ongoing investigations are focused on determining the full scope of Mr. Pius’s activities and identifying any additional potential victims.
