Breaking! Rivers Crisis: Tinubu transmits N1.48trn Emergency Budget to NASS

President Bola Tinubu has submitted an emergency budget proposal of ₦1.48 trillion to the National Assembly for urgent consideration.

The proposal follows a Supreme Court decision that rendered the state’s earlier budget invalid, and comes amid the declaration of emergency rule in the oil-rich state.

According to the breakdown provided by the Presidency, the emergency budget allocates:

₦324 billion for infrastructure,

₦166 billion for health,

₦75.6 billion for education, and

₦31.4 billion for agriculture.

President Tinubu noted that the agricultural component alone is projected to generate over 6,000 jobs, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to stabilizing the state and revitalizing its economy.

“This budget is for the good of the people of Rivers State,” the President said, while urging lawmakers to fast-track the passage of the proposal to avoid further disruption to governance and development in the state.

As Rivers State remains under federal oversight, this intervention represents a critical lifeline to keep essential services running and major projects alive.
