Magistrate Ukoima of the Akwa Ibom State magistrate Court, Uyo has ordered that Chief Samuel James Ekpek be remanded at the correctional center, Uyo pending the ruling of the court on July 10, 2025.
The order followed application brought by the prosecution led by Barr Aniekanabasi Jonson who held the brief for Barr Margaret Ekere.
Chief Samuel Ekpek who is the village Head of Atiamkpat Ubium, in Nsit Ubium local government is alleged to have defiled an 8 years old girl (name withheld for being a minor) in April 2024.
The court also ordered that the case file be sent to the DPP for formal charge while the over 70 years old village Head remains in the correctional center for 21 days till the July 10 adjourned date.
Meanwhile, FIDA – Federation of International Women Advocates had since stepped into the matter, relocating the girl to their facility in Ikot Ekpene.
