Defections: 2027 will be determined by hungry Nigerians, not politicians – Udoh

…lauds El-Rufai, Amaechi, others on stance

By our correspondent

Leader of Opposition Coalition in Akwa Ibom State, Obong (Dr) Uduakobong Udoh has described recent gale of defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as mere political showmanship, saying it won’t affect outcome of the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Udoh who made this known yesterday at the Obong Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo while fielding questions from newsmen upon his return from a political engagement outside the state, emphasized that the next election in Nigeria would not be business as usual.

Udoh, while responding to questions on the possibility of the opposition coalition’s victory in the face of continued defection of politicians into the ruling APC, stressed that 2027 elections would be determined by hungry and mis-governed Nigerians and not the defecting politicians.

“When you look at those who are defecting, compare their numerical strength to that of the suffering Nigerian masses. Check the percentage. Then, you’ll be convinced that 2027 would be a very different ballgame”, the Akwa Ibom 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate assured.

Rhetorically, the coalition leader asked, “Have you journalists also defected? Have your relatives also defected? The answer is a big ‘no’. But, as Nigerians, you all will vote on election day because you have the constitutional rights to so do. Your friends, colleagues and relatives will also vote.

“Now, with the way you are feeling, based on the ongoing hardship, will you and your relatives vote for this government to continue? How much is the price of one litre of fuel? How much is a kilogram of gas? The answers to my questions to you should let you know who will determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.

The few persons who are defecting are parts of the reasons we the majority are suffering. Therefore, their defections will not determine the results of elections, rather, Nigerians will vote based on the way they feel”.

On the strength of the opposition coalition, Obong Udoh said “I must commend the national leaders of the coalition for championing the cause to liberate Nigeria. People like Their Excellencies, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Right Honourable Rotimi Amaechi, Mr. Peter Obi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and so on, are the heroes of this struggle.

They are leaders in their respective domains, leading the Nigerian masses to vote out economic stagnation; vote out insecurity; vote out hunger. Therefore, to the extent that the majority of Nigerians are suffering, then there’s strength in the movement. Come 2027, that strength will be converted into electoral victory”.
