Amidst serious tension over alleged rejection by the Senate of the mandatory electronic transmission of election results in the ongoing amendment of the 1999 constitution, the President of the Senate, Distinguished Sen Godswill Akpabio, GCON, has directed the reconvening of plenary session for an emergency sitting on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
Our paper gathered that the announcement was made on Sunday in a statement signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo.
According to to statement, all Senators are urged to be present at the chambers at 12:00 noon.
The statement reads “The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed the reconvening of plenary for an emergency sitting on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026″.
Meanwhile, Pressure Groups have intensified calls for #OccupyNASS2026.
Several messages sent to Nigerians across different social media platforms show conveners urging citizens to call their lawmakers, and also message them on the subject matter of e-transmission of election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Part of one of such messages read “The 10th National Assembly has decided to wage a War against Democracy and by extension our Lives, We Must Wake up and Say ENOUGH.
Mandatory Real-Time Transmission or Results of Nothing”.
