…inaugurates 1.4km internal roads at police HeadquartersÂ
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended security agencies in the state for their tireless efforts in ensuring the maintenance of peace, law and order, and creating a conducive environment for sustainable development and progress.
Governor Eno made the commendation during the commissioning of a network of 1.4km internal roads at the State Command headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force at Ikot Akpan Abia, and at the 2025 Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony held at the Department of State Services, Uyo.
“Your support has been massive. Thank you for working in sync with other security agencies to maintain law and order in the State, sometimes at the risk of your lives. We are indeed very grateful.
“Without the work that you do, we would not have this peace. You are doing quite a fantastic job, and we are greatly appreciative,” he said.
He disclosed that he has approved contract for the lighting up of Police Stations accross the State.
“We need to light up all our Police Stations so that it can aid their work,” he said.
The Governor commended the State Police Commissioner Baba Mohammed Azare for his committed service and effective deployment of patrol vehicles recently donated to the Command by the State Government to enhance their work delivery.
He promised to contribute to a stronger Police presence in the State by assisting to construct a Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, and also appreciated the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for granting the approval to site the CTU project in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Governor Eno assured the Command of his administration’s continued support for their improved service delivery and specifically encouraged an officer whose house was gutted by fire as well as the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, Kokoette Thompson Ebong, for emerging as the Crime Buster of the Year during the 2024 Nigeria Police Force Awards and Commendations ceremony held in Abuja.
He also disclosed plans to move the State department of fire service to the Occupational Safety Department to enhance efficiency.
At the DSS office, the Governor approved two new Toyota Hilux to help them in the discharge of the duties.
Earlier, CP Azare had welcomed and commended the Governor for prioritizing security, peace and unity of the State.
CP Azare appreciated Governor Eno for his support and strong belief in the fact that security infrastructure and good governance are inseparable pillars of development, reiterating that the Governor’s support to the State Police Command since he assumed office has been remarkably consistent and impactful.
He noted that the newly constructed internal roads by the Government are not just internal facilities, but strategic assets that will significantly enhance mobility, response time, operational efficiency, and overall effectiveness of the Command.
CP Azare assured the Governor of the Command’s continued partnership with his administration to achieve much improved level of security, peace, and safety of the State.
Giving an overview of the road project, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, disclosed that the new roads are products of the compassionate disposition of Governor Umo Eno when he visited and witnessed its deplorable condition sometimes in 2024.
Prof. Ibanga assured that the job done on the roads was of very high quality, adding that it will comfortably serve the people for a minimum of 20-year before any rehabilitation work.
High-points of the events were the cutting of the tape by Governor Umo Eno to officially commission the 1.4km internal roads and the turning on of the Christmas lights at the Department of State Services.
