Tragedy has struck the family of the Usmans as twin sisters, both health professionals, died 48 hours apart in Yobe and Borno States, leaving colleagues and loved ones in deep shock and mourning.

The deceased are Dr Hadiya Usman, a Medical Doctor, and her twin sister, Dr Aidah Usman, a Doctor of Pharmacy.

According to family sources, Dr Hadiya Usman, the Medical Doctor, died on Friday after being admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Nguru, for about a week due to complications arising from sickle cell crisis.

Her twin sister, Aidah Usman, was also hospitalized at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, around the same time but had recovered and was discharged.

The twins, who were said to be very close and inseparable since birth, had both pursued careers in the health sector with a passion to save lives.

However, in a heartbreaking twist, Dr Aidah Usman reportedly died on Sunday, barely 48 hours after her twin sister’s death.

Sources close to the family disclosed that on Sunday, after visiting her twin sister’s grave, Dr Aidah suddenly fainted and was rushed to the hospital, where she sadly passed away too.

The incident has thrown the medical community in Yobe and Borno States into mourning, with many colleagues taking to social media to express their shock and pay tributes to the duo.

A colleague described the twin sisters as dedicated, humble and passionate professionals who were committed to their duties and to the well-being of their patients.

“One of the twin sisters sadly passed away on Friday after being admitted at FMC Nguru for about a week due to a sickle cell crisis. Her twin was also hospitalized at UMTH around the same time but recovered and was discharged. Today, after visiting her twin’s grave, she suddenly fainted and was rushed to the hospital, where she sadly passed away too,” a family friend recounted.

Meanwhile, an X App, also known as Twitter user, Ibrahim Yusuf, while reacting to the sad incident said he knew the mother of the deceased whom he said is the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.

According to Ibrahim: “I had the privilege of meeting their mother, the CMD of FMC Nguru, at her office last month. She is a remarkably dedicated, brilliant and compassionate woman who graciously gave me more than an hour of her very tight schedule”.
