…High Court convicts Iboro Sunday Akpan on all counts in 2025 Annex B Estate attack

IKOT EKPENE — A High Court sitting in Ikot Ekpene has sentenced Iboro Sunday Akpan to death by hanging for his role in the armed robbery attack that left lawyer Barr. Camilus Ben fatally shot in July 2025.

Justice A. Odokwo of High Court No. 2 delivered judgment on June 9, 2026, convicting Akpan on three counts: Conspiracy to Murder, Armed Robbery, and Attempted Murder.

The case, The State v. Iboro Sunday Akpan with Suit No. HT/25C/2025, was prosecuted by Godwin Udom, Esq.

Court records show that on July 23, 2025, a gang of armed robbers attacked Barr. Ben at Annex B Estate, Ikot Otor, in Ikot Ekpene LGA. The victim sustained gunshot injuries but survived after receiving prompt medical care.

For sentencing, Justice Odokwo handed down 14 years imprisonment for Conspiracy to Murder, life imprisonment for Attempted Murder, and the death sentence for Armed Robbery. The court ordered that all sentences run concurrently from the date of judgment.

The Ministry of Justice, in a statement issued by its Publicity Unit, Law Officers Association, said the conviction reflects its commitment to “upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights.”
