Pan-Africanist and development advocate, Hon. Ibrahim Kabiru Gagarawa, has blamed the leaders in Northern Nigeria for the insecurity ravaging the region.
In a statement circulated to the media, Hon Gagarawa bemoaned a situation where parents in the north gave birth to a huge number of children that they couldn’t feed, educate, guide and protect.
Gagarawa wrote:
“The insecurity and chaos we see today started inside our homes. Parents are giving birth to children they cannot feed, cannot educate, cannot guide, and cannot protect. Then those children are pushed to the streets, abandoned to hunger, begging, and bad influence.
“A man who cannot properly take care of one wife and two children goes ahead to marry three wives and produce fifteen or seventeen children.
Many of today’s terrorists and bandits were once innocent children roaming the streets, hungry, uneducated, and forgotten. They were abandoned by irresponsible parents and betrayed by corrupt leaders who stole funds meant for education and welfare.
“Now those abandoned children have grown up angry, desperate, and dangerous, and we pretend to be surprised.
“Parents, take responsibility. If you cannot feed a child, educate a child, or guide a child, then stop having so many children. Stop bringing lives into the world you are not prepared to nurture. Every child abandoned today is a problem for the entire society tomorrow.
Until parents in the North start planning families, raising their children responsibly, and ending reckless childbirth, nothing will change. This is hard, but it must be said: your irresponsibility is destroying the North”.
