The Cry That Came Too Late

SCRIPTURE TEXT:

“And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!”(2 Samuel 18:33).

THEME: The Silent Regrets of Unspoken Love

DATE: May 14, 2025

BY: EFFIONG ETOK
Carrier of God’s Word

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
“The pride that kept you silent may one day become the reason you mourn in regret.”

INTRODUCTION

Child of God,
There’s a sound louder than thunder-it’s the scream of a heart that waited too long to speak.
There are regrets that don’t show up in life-but in funerals.
David cried, “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for thee…”

But Absalom never heard those words when it mattered.
He never heard: “I love you.”
He never heard: “I’m sorry.”
He never heard: “Let’s talk.”

Why do we wait until the casket closes before we open our hearts?
Why do we allow silence to grow where love could’ve healed?

MAIN MESSAGE

“And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept…” – 2 Samuel 18:33

David wept-not just for a son who died, but for the conversation that never lived.
He didn’t cry over a rebellious son.
He cried over a disconnected relationship-a bond that was never mended.

He never said the words.

He never bridged the distance.

He never healed the wound.

And now?
His tears were loud…
But they were too late.

Child of God, who are you still loving in silence?
Who do you think knows how you feel-but has never heard it from your lips?
You think they understand.
You think they “should know.”
But they don’t.
And one day, it might be too late to say it.

Let this message be your wake-up call.
Say it.
Write it.
Call them.
Hug them.
Apologize.
Don’t let pride make you bury love that God wants to heal.

Because love not spoken becomes pain unhealed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. Who am I silently loving, hoping they know-yet I’ve never told them with my words?

2. Have I allowed silence to become the language of my closest relationships, while love remains unspoken?

3. If today were my last breath, what unfinished words would I wish I had said-and who still needs to hear them?

TAKEAWAY STATEMENT

Healing often begins with words we were too proud or too wounded to say. Don’t wait until your tears speak louder than your voice.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, break the silence I’ve wrapped around my wounds. Tear down the pride that buried my love-let me speak before it’s too late.

2. Father, don’t let death, distance, or delay steal my chance to heal what I still carry. Don’t let time close what I failed to open.

3. O God, redeem every broken bond. Open my lips, soften their hearts-don’t let regret speak louder than love, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen!
