Two suspected kidnappers arrested in Eket, handed over to police

Two alleged kidnappers have been arrested by the youth of Afia Nsit village in Eket Local Government Area and handed over to the Police for further investigation.

They were arrested around 9pm yesterday, August 16, 2025, while attempting to kidnap one Dr. Emerson, the owner of Emerson Pharmacy located at Udofa Street by RCC Road in Eket.

According to the report, the two suspects were apprehended with charms and amulets with a sack bag containing assault rifles and a pump machine, while two others have escaped.

Narrating the story, the Chairman of Afia Nsit Village Council, Mr. Slessor Ekanem, said he received a distress call from the youth of his community and decided to visit the scene.

On reaching the scene, Dr. Emerson briefed him that while approaching his gate, trying to enter his compound, someone approached his car from behind, forcibly tried to enter the vehicle. While he tried to reverse, another jumped in and pointed a pistol at him. Sensing danger, he decided to drive the vehicle at speed, which landed them in a gutter where the suspected kidnapper alighted from the vehicle and started running. He therefore raised an alarm, which attracted boys who closed in on him, and he was arrested.

Speaking further, Mr Ekanem said while they combed the area looking for those that had escaped, one woman walking on the street alerted them that he had seen someone walking barefoot with a white sack bag. She then showed them where he entered. They have to comb the entire farmland, following his trace to discover a white sack bag containing rifles and a pump machine.

Reacting to the development, the Village Council Chairman Ofriyo, Edidem David Thompson, commended the youth of Afia Nsit for their vigilance to keep watch over the community, appealing for their effort to be reciprocated to motivate them to tame the tide of crime in the area.

Also speaking, a former youth president of Afia Nsit, Comrade Nseobong Dickson, lauded the youth of Afia Nsit for their courage to confront the suspected kidnappers even when they were well armed, warning that nobody comes to the Community with charms and goes out safely. He appealed for the youth of the community to be well equipped with gadgets like Android phones for intelligence gathering and empowerment, promising to always work with security operatives to tame the tide of crime in the area and its environs.

Further information has it that the culprits were traced to a hotel around James Town junction along Ikot Udoma Road, where they had lodged for about four days, trailing their intended victim.
