…as Akwa Ibom APC State Youth, Woman Leaders convene meeting

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups in Akwa Ibom State have adopted the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as their sole Presidential Candidate.
The grassroots mobilizers who declared their stance today, July 28, 2025, during a special meeting jointly convened at the Party State Secretariat, #6 Ekpo Obot Street, Uyo, by the Akwa Ibom APC State Youth Leader and State Woman Leader; Hon Clement Awakessien, Ph.D and Obonganwan Obonodo Uko, respectively, also endorsed the reelection bid of the State Governor; His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D.
In a motion moved by Dr. Awakessien, seconded by Obonganwan Obonodo and unanimously affirmed with a sounding voice vote by the group leaders, the gathering also declared their unalloyed support for the reelection of the former Akwa Ibom governor and current President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON as Senator to represent Akwa Ibom Northwest Senatorial District.
Earlier in their seperate remarks, the conveners lauded the various transformative strides of President Tinubu which they reasoned were aimed at correcting the rots of past administrations with a view to repositioning the country for a sustainable growth.
While noting with satisfaction the stabilizing role of Senate President Akpabio, the party leaders maintained that his dexterous leadership of the national assembly helped in the actualization of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. They also extolled Governor Umo Eno’s developmental stride, attributing it to his charismatic governance of the state.
On the defection of Gov Umo Eno into the APC and other developments in the party, Dr. Awakessien said: “I know you…”, referring to the APC support groups leaders “…were not happy with what transpired at the Chief Godswill Akpabio International Stadium during the reception organized to receive His Excellency, the Governor and other members of the PDP into the APC in the state.
That’s because over eighty percent of the planning and organization were handled by the PDP members to receive themselves. As the State Youth Leader of the party constitutionally saddled with the responsibility, with the State Woman Leader, of mobilizing support groups, I won’t pretend I didn’t feel your frustrations. I could deduce your feelings from the hundreds of phone calls I received on this matter, hence, this meeting.
However, I can assure you that based on facts, the governor is a peace-loving and spirit-filled man. He knows what to do. May be the situation was influenced by the PDP constitution which makes provision for Contact and Mobilization. But not so in the APC constitution. In the APC, the responsibility of mobilization is constitutionally vested in the Youths Wing and the Women Wing of the party with the various support groups, in occasions as this. Therefore, going forward, everything will take its proper shape”.
Goodwill messages were presented during the meeting with a unanimous resolve to work for the success of the party, while appealing to Gov Umo Eno to carry the APC support groups along in the scheme of his government.
The meeting was attended by over seven hundred leaders of the APC support groups registered in the party.
