Kwara PDP suffers fresh blow over massive defection

…as Offa LG Vice Chairmanship candidate, followers exit party

The Kwara State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another setback as its Vice Chairmanship Candidate in the 2023 Offa Local Government Council Election, Hon. Princess Adedoyin Adesoye, alongside several of her supporters, resigned from the party.

In a letter dated December 15, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Essa ‘C’ Ward, Hon. Adesoye stated that her decision to leave the party was taken in the interest of her people. She added that her resignation takes effect from the date of the letter.

“I, Princess Adedoyin Adesoye, the Vice Chairmanship Candidate of the PDP in Offa Local Government Area during the 2023 Local Government Council Election, hereby tender my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” the letter read in part.

Adesoye, who contested on the same ticket with Hon. Salahudeen Lukman, popularly known as Omo Adugbo, expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity to be a member of the PDP and for rising to become the party’s Vice Chairmanship Candidate in the last Offa Local Government election.

Her exit has generated reactions among residents and political observers in the state, some of whom described the resignation as a significant setback for the Kwara PDP, particularly at a time when the party and its leader, Senator Bukola Saraki, are facing growing rejection among Kwarans.

When contacted, one of Adesoye’s followers, who pleaded for anonymity, alleged that Hon. Lukman had rarely visited Offa since losing the election, accusing him of engaging with the community solely for political gain.

The Kwara PDP, observers note, has not only lost relevance in the state but has also seen the departure of influential members, including former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who are now members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Political analysts attribute the continued exodus of prominent members to dissatisfaction with what they describe as Senator Bukola Saraki’s high-handed leadership style and his alleged disregard for party elders and stakeholders.
