2027: Get fully involved in partisan politics – A’Ibom Coalition Leader charges women

…as Women Coalition for Good Governance holds get-together

By Ime Silas

Women of Akwa Ibom State have been urged to encourage themselves to be much more involved in partisan politics in order to bring about the desired change and good governance.

Leader of the ADC (African Democratic Congress) Coalition in Akwa Ibom State, Obong (Dr) Uduakobong Udoh, who gave the charge Sunday evening in Uyo, while addressing stakeholders of Women Coalition for Good Governance (WCGG), also expressed his belief that given their numerical strength, the women could influence electoral processes and determine outcomes in the state.

The Executive members and stakeholders of the group were at the State Headquarters of the Coalition, Akwa Efak in Uyo for their New Year get-together party.

Speaking, Obong Udoh, who was represented at the event by the National Chairman of the Democratic Freedom Front, DFF, Mr. Ikakke Bassey, also appreciated the leadership of the women group for coming together to work towards the enthronement of people-centric government in Akwa Ibom state in particular, and Nigeria in general.

“I want to really commend you for championing this initiative of bringing the women together for this onerous task of enthroning good governance in the state and in the country”, the Coalition Leader’s representative said, emphasizing his belief in the women’s capacity to influence the electoral processes.

He continued: “One thing I have to state here today is that you can be the machineries that could usher in the much desired change and good governance. The undeniable fact is that you women have the numerical strength. You have a lot of influence on your children and can as well, contribute impactfully on your husbands’ political decisions.

Therefore, I charge you today to keep the fire burning. Continue encouraging more women to join you. Good governance cannot be achieved without politicking. So, talk to more women to see the need to leave their comfort zones and participate more in deciding who becomes what, come 2027”.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the National Vice Chairman (South-south) of the Labour Party, LP; Pst (Mrs.) Martina Umana and the Chairperson of Women Coalition for Good Governance; Mrs. Freena Akpan, both thanked Obong Uduakobong Udoh for providing an effective leadership for the opposition coalition in the state.

According to Mrs. Umana: “The women here are very happy with the ADC Coalition in Akwa Ibom State under the able leadership of Obong (Dr) Uduakobong Peter Udoh. Right from 2023 when you emerged as the governorship candidate of our great Labour Party, you have continued to keep faith with the downtrodden masses of Akwa Ibom State.

We chose to celebrate our New Year Get-together party at this edifice you made available as the Headquarters of the Opposition Coalition in the state, as a way of appreciating your leadership efforts.

The women will continue to appreciate and support your leadership today, tomorrow and always. We believe in your capacity to lead us to the much desired promised land where good governance would not only be preached in speeches, but enthroned for the betterment of the people”.

On her part, the Chairperson, Mrs. Freena Akpan said: “There could have been no better way to show our solidarity with your leadership than choosing to come here to celebrate the New Year with you. God will continue to bless you as you continue to lead us.
