…appoints renowned IT and Digital Communication Expert as Special Assistant on New Media

Uyo – Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed a distinguished IT and digital communication specialist as Special Assistant on New Media. Prior to this appointment, Destiny Young led Technology Infrastructure Management and IT Operations at the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority in Onne, Rivers State.
Destiny Young, a highly credentialed IT professional, brings to Governor Umo Eno’s administration over a decade of experience in ICT and digital political communication. An alumnus of the University of South Africa, Destiny’s academic and professional journey demonstrates remarkable dedication and determination. His impressive educational qualifications include a First Class Master of Science in Digital Transformation, a Distinction-grade Master of Business Administration specialising in Cybersecurity from Nexford University, Washington DC, USA, a Master of Technology degree in Information Technology from the University of Africa, and he is awaiting results for a Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (Cybersecurity major). Destiny also holds a Second-Class Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, alongside an HND in Computer Science. He is currently undertaking a Doctorate programme in Technology Management at ANAN University Business School, Abuja.
Destiny Young’s professional standing is further enhanced by his memberships and fellowships in several prestigious organisations. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Information Management (IIM), Nigeria Chapter, a Chartered IT Practitioner (C.tip), and a Member of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (MCPN). Additionally, he holds memberships with the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), British Computer Society (BCS), Nigeria Institute of Management – Chartered (NIM), Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA), International Association of Engineers (MIAENG), and various AI, Computer, and Internet Societies, as well as the Institute of Data Processing Management of Nigeria (IDPMN). These affiliations affirm his commitment to professional excellence, ongoing development and active contribution to elevating IT and management standards both nationally and internationally.
Destiny Young has earned over seven professional IT certifications, accumulating more than 120 certificates throughout his career, demonstrating his continuous pursuit of knowledge and mastery across diverse IT fields. Notably, he is a Google Certified Digital Marketer, underscoring his expertise in harnessing digital platforms for effective communication and marketing strategies. This extensive portfolio of certifications complements his academic credentials and professional memberships, establishing him as a highly skilled and versatile expert in technology and digital communication.
His public service record is unblemished, having commenced his career at Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited in 2006, where he rose to become Technical Head of ICT before voluntarily resigning in 2016. Subsequently, he was engaged by the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority as an IT Support Consultant under the leadership of Mr Umana Okon Umana, supporting the Authority’s digital technology integration initiative. His efforts contributed to the agency ranking first among 44 Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the Presidential Ease of Doing Business Index for three consecutive years in the efficiency category. In 2019, he was converted into a fulltime employee of the organisation.
Destiny also refined his political communication skills in 2013, leading the youth group APCFanClub, which utilised digital media to rally support for the then newly formed All Progressives Congress (APC).
If consistency had a synonym, it would be “Destiny”. He played key roles in managing the APC’s image in Akwa Ibom State during its formative years despite setbacks in various gubernatorial elections. In 2015, he directed digital media for Umana Okon Umana’s governorship campaign; in 2019, he managed Nsima Ekere’s campaign; and in 2023, he led the digital media team for Obong Akan Udofia’s governorship campaign.
These cumulative experiences have sharpened Destiny’s expertise in both technology and digital communication.
