BREAKING: Nigeria beat South Africa to qualify for WAFCON Final
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured a place in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a dramatic 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa in a pulsating semi-final clash.
Nigeria took the lead in first-half stoppage time (45+1’) through Rasheedat Ajibade, who calmly slotted the ball home after a well-worked team move.
South Africa responded in the 60th minute when Linda Motlhalo converted from the penalty spot, sending goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie the wrong way to bring the match level.
Just when extra time seemed inevitable, Nigeria found a late winner in the 94th minute. A long ball from Michelle Alozie into the South African box was misjudged by goalkeeper Dlamini and ended up in the back of the net, sealing a crucial win for the Super Falcons.
With the victory, Nigeria advance to the final and will face the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final between hosts Morocco and Ghana. The Falcons are now just one win away from lifting a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
