Spokesperson to the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Hon. Eseme Eyiboh has harped on the need for Akwa Ibom State to send her very bests to the National Assembly, Abuja, come 2027.

Hon Eyiboh who formerly represented Eket Federal Constituency at the national assembly, stated this during an interactive session with journalists in Uyo on Monday.

Baring his mind on wide range of issues regarding legislative governance, democracy and politics in Akwa Ibom State in particular and Nigeria in general, the former lawmaker emphasized that some of the current legislators from the state who have performed well should be re-elected in order to have the bests in the national legislature.

He lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Bassey Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for, according to him, performing exceptionally at their various levels of leadership.

Commending the current National Assembly led by his boss and Senate President; His Excellency, Distinguished Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio, Hon. Eyiboh said: “The National Assembly as it is presently constituted is the best in the annals of Nigerian history and I will justify that”.

He continued: “It is the best in annals of Nigerian history because it has been able to cultivate internal democracy. It has been able to build membership cohesion.

It has been able to sustain the principles of democracy. And, in democracy you have three arms of government: the executive, the legislature and also the judiciary. It is the first time in the annals of Nigerian history that activism and self-deceit are not brought into the governance of this country.

That’s why we are able to have unassailable success stories in the national assembly led by one of us, the son of the soil, son of South-south; the son of Akwa Ibom State and Nigerian patriot, His Excellency, Distinguished Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio.

But this interaction is not at the instance of my position as the spokesperson to the Senate President”.

Hon. Eyiboh specifically lauded the federal government for its numerous people-oriented programmes and projects, attributing its successes to the astuteness of the national assembly leadership.

“These unassailable achievements of the tenth Senate is not limited to the issue of the fuel subsidy intervention to the issue of the students loan scheme where a lot of children who were born so many years ago could not have access to schools because of not having fees.

But over hundreds and millions are going to schools today because they have access to the Students loan scheme. So it’s a success story”, the Senate President’s spokesperson noted.

Hon. Eyiboh further commended the leadership of the national assembly for giving to Nigerians the new Electoral Act which he described as the “game changer”, stressing that “power has been given back to the people; where you have direct primaries; where you have political parties engaging by the rules of the game that there must be portals of political parties…”.

He emphasized that the new Electoral Act would minimize litigations arising from anomalies in party primaries, stabilize the polity, thereby enhancing peace, progress and development across Nigeria.
