THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Before we rush to live another year, we should quietly ask why we were allowed to see it.
MESSAGE
Beloved, as we stand at the beginning of another year, there is a strong temptation to move quickly—into plans, expectations, and conversations about what lies ahead. But wisdom asks us to slow down. Before we talk about how to live this year, we must first acknowledge why we are still here.
We are standing today not because the year was easy.
Not because we were perfect.
Not because we made all the right choices.
We are here because mercy intervened.
Scripture says plainly, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.” That sentence removes pride from our language. It reminds us that our lives have been extended is not a reward; it is compassion. Our presence is not proof of obedience; it is grace.
This truth invites us to pause. Rushed gratitude rarely lasts. When we hurry past mercy, we begin to live as though life is owed to us. But when we sit with mercy, our hearts will be soften. We will remember how fragile life is, how easily things could have turned out differently, and how quietly God carried us into 2026.
Today, we choose not to rush. We choose to sit with this truth together. We confess honestly: if mercy had not stepped in, we would not be here. That admission is not weakness; it is wisdom.
And as we sit with mercy, a prayer rises naturally—“Teach us to number our days.” Not to count time anxiously, but to live carefully. To stop assuming tomorrow. To allow gratitude to slow our pace and wisdom to guide our choices.
Mercy has brought us here. We should not insult or abuse it by living carelessly. We want this awareness to shape how we speak, decide, and walk through the days ahead in the year 2026.
BENEDICTION
May the Lord who quietly preserved us keep our hearts tender.
May we never rush past the mercy that kept us alive.
May wisdom teach us how to live the days we have been given.
And may our lives gently testify that this round of mercy was not wasted.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
